Towing Hudson County NJ: the questions callers from all twelve towns bring to the dispatch desk
These are the questions Hudson County callers ask most, from the Bayonne peninsula to the top of the Palisades. The person who wrote the answers is the one who picks up.
Everything Hudson County drivers ask before they book a tow
All twelve Hudson County towns are covered, trucks come from Linden and are often already in the county, the booking fee is the same everywhere, mileage is quoted first, tunnels and the Turnpike have their own rules, and nobody needs a membership.
Which Hudson County towns do you actually cover?
All twelve: Bayonne, East Newark, Guttenberg, Harrison, Hoboken, Jersey City, Kearny, North Bergen, Secaucus, Union City, Weehawken and West New York. Every one of them reaches the same dispatcher at (908) 666-3168.
Your trucks come from Linden. How long until one reaches me in Hudson County?
From the yard it is about 25 minutes to Bayonne, 24 to 25 to Kearny and Harrison, 28 to Jersey City, 30 to Secaucus, 32 to Hoboken and 36 to 40 to Union City, West New York and North Bergen. If a truck is already on the Extension or working in Jersey City, it is usually sooner, and the dispatcher tells you which.
Does North Bergen or Guttenberg pay more because it is the far end of the county?
No. The booking fee is the same in every Hudson County town, and mileage runs from your car to the destination, not from Linden. A Guttenberg car headed to a West New York shop has a very short mileage line.
What does a tow cost in Hudson County?
$149 to book by phone or $129 online, covering the truck reaching you and the hook-up, plus mileage to where the car is going, spoken before dispatch. Roadside jobs are one flat price each. The prices page has every line.
My car is on a low level of a parking garage in Jersey City. Can you get it out?
Usually, yes. Tell the dispatcher the garage, the level and the posted clearance so she sends a low-profile truck or plans to roll the car to the entrance on dollies. Any garage work is priced before the driver goes in.
I broke down in the Holland Tunnel. Can you come get me?
Not inside the tube. The Port Authority clears stalled cars from the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels and the Route 495 helix. Once they drop the car on a Jersey City or Weehawken street, call us with the spot and we take it wherever you want.
What if I stall on the Turnpike Extension near Bayonne or Jersey City?
On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price. The Extension counts as Turnpike, so this applies from Exit 14A to 14C.
Can you tow a car parked on a permit-only street in Hoboken or the Heights?
Yes, as long as you own it or have the owner's permission. A wheel-lift loads from a tight curb quickly, and the driver can put a boxed-in car on skates to slide it out without touching the cars around it.
Is Bergenline Avenue too crowded for a tow truck?
It is crowded, but we work it. Give the cross street and the side of the avenue, and if the car will roll, push it onto the nearest side street. The driver loads fast so the bus lane clears.
My car will not start in the Secaucus Junction lot. Is that a tow?
Often not. A car that sat all day in a commuter lot usually has a tired battery, and the driver tries a jump first at one flat price. If the battery refuses to hold, the tow goes on the same visit with no second callout.
Do you handle box trucks and tractors around the Meadowlands warehouses?
Yes. Medium and heavy-duty trucks from the same fleet work Secaucus, North Bergen and Kearny Point. Warehouses and carriers that call often can open an account with one monthly invoice.
Can you tow me from Hudson County to a shop in Newark, Elizabeth or Bergen County?
Yes. Essex, Bergen and Union counties are short trips from any Hudson County town, priced on mileage. Farther trips, including across the river into New York, are quoted up front as a long distance tow.
After a crash on Kennedy Boulevard, can I choose you over the police rotation truck?
Usually, once the scene is safe and the officer agrees. Tell the officer your own tow is on the way and name your body shop. Our driver photographs the damage and delivers there, not to a lot that bills by the day.
Do you have flatbeds for AWD cars and EVs?
Yes. Name the car on the call and the dispatcher assigns a flatbed from the start. An AWD car or an EV should never be pulled on two wheels, and our drivers will not do it.
Is there extra for late nights or holidays in Hudson County?
No. The price list does not change with the hour or the calendar. A 2 a.m. call from Journal Square costs the same as a Tuesday lunchtime call from Bayonne.
Do you store cars or charge release fees?
No. There is no lot. The car goes to the address you give us, whether that is your driveway in Kearny or a dealer on Route 440, so nothing is stored and nothing needs releasing.
My street in Hoboken flooded and the car stalled in water. What should I do?
Do not try to restart it, since that can pull water into the engine. Call with the block, and the dispatcher sends a flatbed once the water has dropped enough for the truck to reach it safely.
Can a Hudson County building or dealer get a business account?
Yes. Property managers, dealers, repair shops and fleets anywhere in the county can hold an account with a rate sheet, a direct line, scheduled windows and one monthly invoice.
I am locked out near Liberty State Park. How fast can you come?
Lockouts are one flat price. Liberty State Park is right off Exit 14B, about 28 minutes from Linden, and often closer if a truck is working downtown Jersey City. Tell the dispatcher which lot you are in.
Do I need a membership or a roadside plan to call you?
No. Anyone can call. If you do have a roadside plan or insurance towing coverage, the itemized receipt is set up for their reimbursement forms.
Can you pick me up after a Harrison stadium event if my car will not start?
Yes. Lots around Sports Illustrated Stadium empty slowly after a match, so tell the dispatcher the lot and the nearest street. Kearny and Harrison are about 24 minutes from Linden, one of our shorter Hudson County runs.
